ACL800C Surface Resistance Tester Operation Manual

Before measuring, first make sure that the surface to be measured is clean and free from pollution.

1. Surface resistance: (Surface Resistivity)

1. Parallel Probe Resistivity Method

The parallel probe impedance measurement method is a measurement method that conforms to the EOS/ESD-S11.11-1993 standard, which is a fast method for measuring the resistance value of a planar uniform material. This method is also suitable for the measurement of multilayer materials, but the temperature and humidity conditions during the measurement must be noted in the impedance report.

A. Place the meter on the surface of the object to be measured.

B. Turn the switch to the desired voltage position (10V or 100V)

C. Keep pressing the measurement button with a pressure of about 5 pounds. At this time, the LCD screen will display the measured surface impedance, temperature and relative humidity. The entire measurement process takes about fifteen seconds.

In each measurement, after pressing the measurement button, the ACL-800 meter will continuously display the trimming measurement value, and within about forty-five seconds after releasing the button, the last measurement value will be displayed.

2. Concentric Ring Probe Resistivity method

(The concentric ring probe is optional)

Insert the connecting plug into the two 3.5 mm jacks of the meter, and connect the banana plug with the concentric ring probe (optional). After placing the probe on the surface of the object to be tested and pressing the button for about 15 seconds, the correct temperature and relative humidity will be displayed on the LCD screen. The correct surface impedance value is the reading on the LCD screen multiplied by 10. The unit is ohm/□.

E.g:

The display on the crystal screen is 3.5×10 4 ohm/□; the actual impedance value is 3.5×10 5 ohm/□.

2. Surface Resistance Measurement (Point to Point) (Surface Resistance Measurement (RTT))

This measurement method is in accordance with the EOS/ESD-S4.1 measurement requirements to measure the resistance between two points independent of the ground. The measurement results obtained by this measurement method and the processing of the measured object, between two 5-pound probes The distance and other factors are related, therefore, the correct measurement procedure should be selected, and the test should be performed under the same required measurement conditions each time.

A. Insert the connecting plug into the two 3.5 mm jacks of the meter, and connect the banana plug to the two 5-pound probes.

B. Place the two probes on the surface of the object to be measured in accordance with the measurement procedure.

C. Select the desired voltage value (10 volts or 100 volts)

D. Press the switch until the selected voltage value (10 volts or 100 volts) is displayed, and continue to press the switch until the measured resistance (unit is ohm)

Hm), the relative humidity and temperature are displayed on the LCD screen.

3. Surface-To-Ground Resistance Measurement (RTG) (Surface-To-Ground Resistance Measurement (RTG))

This measurement method is used to measure the surface resistance between a point on the surface of the object and another grounding point on the surface. The measurement method conforms to the EOS/ESD S4.1 measurement standard.

A. Insert one end of the two wires into the two 3.5 mm jacks of the watch, and then connect one of them to the alligator clip, and the other to a 5-pound disc probe.

B. Connect the alligator clip to the known grounding point, and place the disc probe on the surface of the object to be measured according to the measurement requirements.

C. Press the measurement button until the resistance (in ohms), relative humidity, and temperature are displayed on the display. The measurement results comply with EIA, EOS/ESD, ANSI, IEC-93, CECC, ASTM measurement standards, for high-impedance materials In order to ensure high-precision measurement results during the measurement, be careful not to overlap the two leads, and do not touch the probe, lead and the measured object with your hands.

Calibration steps of ACL800C surface resistance tester

 

1. Impedance bridge with a range of 10 3 to 10 12 with an accuracy of 1%. High precision relative humidity meter (Relative Humidity Hygrometer) high precision thermometer (High accuracy Thermometer)

2. Open the meter cover and be careful not to damage the two wires connecting the power switch on the circuit board.

3. Find the three calibration pots at the bottom right of the circuit board (Calibration Pots)

4. Keep the watch under this environmental condition for at least 1/2 hour, and the test can be started after self-balance is achieved.

5. Use the cable that comes with the ACL-800 watch to connect one end to the alligator clip and the other end to the banana plug.

6. Insert the 3.5 mm long plug into the socket of the meter.

7. Connect both ends of the resistor with alligator clips.

8. Three calibration regulators, * the upper one is "humidity" measurement, the middle one is "impedance", and the lower one is "temperature adjustment with a small screwdriver". The clockwise direction is for increasing value adjustment, and the counterclockwise direction is for decreasing value adjustment.

9. Press the power switch and compare the "temperature", "humidity" and "resistance" values ​​at the same time.

10. Release the power switch, and slowly adjust the corresponding calibration regulator.

11. Press the power switch again and observe the LCD display.

12. If you need to re-calibrate, you can press the power switch again and adjust the calibrator.

13. Cover the meter cover and tighten the four fixing screws.

14. Press the power switch to confirm whether the watch is working properly.

1. Why is temperature and humidity measurement important?

Because temperature and humidity will directly affect the electrical characteristics of the measured object. Under the conditions of low temperature and humidity, the resistance of the object will increase significantly, making the static discharge rate slow and time increasing. Under high humidity conditions, the surface of the object will condense or absorb a thin water film. This hygroscopicity enhances the electrical conductivity of the material, especially for those materials that can absorb water vapor. As the temperature increases, the fluidity of free electricity increases, thus enhancing the conductivity of materials, especially those materials that are added with carbon black, metal oxides, metals or other conductive substances. When the temperature is low, the material will generate internal stress, which increases the distance between the conductive additives, thereby increasing its resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to understand humidity and temperature. When testing a material under high humidity conditions, it may pass all the measured indicators, but when the user purchases the material and uses it at low humidity or temperature, it may not meet the requirements, which will result in waste. And loss. Another reason why temperature/humidity must be measured and recorded is that the ANSI/ESD Association and the European CECC also recognize the influence of ambient temperature/humidity and require these data to be measured and recorded in their standards.

 

For example: in ESD DS4.1 ESD protection work surface, section 6.2.4 and ESD S7.1-1994 material impedance parameters, ground materials section 5.2.4 and section 5.3.3 are required, "At the same time report the temperature and Relative humidity".

These data must be measured and recorded at the same time to avoid errors. Manufacturers, distributors, sales personnel and users must understand the environmental humidity and temperature parameters to avoid rejection or scrapping of some special materials.

 

2. Why or under what circumstances should it be measured at the same time under the conditions of 10 volts and 100 volts, respectively?

In the past, people must measure impedance in accordance with ASTM D264, ASTM 991A or NFPA 56A or 99 standards. In these measurement processes, the measurement voltage is required to be 500 or 1000 volts, which will have a certain impact on the safety of experimenters. Therefore, people hope to use smaller and economical measuring instruments to measure at 9 volts. However, when the impedance value is greater than 107 ohms under 9 volts, the accuracy is difficult to guarantee, and the results obtained are not accurate. *After the ESD Association standardized the measurement process.

The standard process stipulates: when the impedance value is greater than 10 6 ohm/□, it must be measured at a stable 100 volt voltage, and when the impedance value is less than 10 6 ohm/□, it must be measured at 10 volts. This provision is explained in ANSI/EOS/ESD standards DS4.1, S7.1 and S11.11.

3. Why is digital display better than analog display or LED display?

Yes it is. If the battery power is low, the meter will display "low battery". But even in this case, the meter will still give an accurate reading. When the battery power is too low to guarantee a stable 100 volt output, the meter will no longer work at all. At this time, a certain amount of power is still used in the battery, which can be used for other instruments and equipment that do not require high power.

11. If you test a high-resistance material, will the measured voltage be lower than 100 volts?
